A creative theatre, Comédie de Genève offers contemporary plays that address who we are, and writes our story.
Yes, writing our story, the history of the theatre which will soon move. The history of the city, which will redefine its own geography with a reinvented district and modified arteries, changing the city’s arterial flow. It is your own history too, since audiences each see a different show from their own unique perspective which is filtered through their own experiences, values, doubts and emotions. We write our history as directors, we who daydreamed in front of plays performed at La Comédie, often viewed from the upper circle. We will remember the past and invent the future in our own way. And especially the history of the artists, the crazy and the frail ones whom we invite to come and tell you about their world, which is our world.
Our world, right from this first season, is set in a festival atmosphere with Julie’s Party, En direct de tg STAN, 2 x L’Alakran, Festival de Soli. International theatre directors will produce plays here at La Comédie, offering unique outlooks on the same play and theatre that focuses on the actor’s work.
Together, we will write this history. First here at Boulevard des Philosophes, because the new Comédie is already happening now. And then at Eaux-Vives. And ultimately, everywhere, with and for you.

A creative theatre, Comédie de Genève offers large-scale projects with a strong message that is carried by bold artists. In its productions, the theatre fosters collaborations between local and international artists, particularly through the creation of an Ensemble (troupe) in 2021.
A multidisciplinary theatre, Comédie schedules unique and popular plays, promoting collaboration between institutions and a sustainable circulation of works. Aside from theatre, contemporary dance and arthouse circus also have a place in its programme. The project aims to showcase the essentials of world theatre and to help talent in Western Switzerland bloom through international exposure.
A local theatre, accessible and inclusive, Comédie opens its doors to all audiences, inviting the local population and its residents to adopt and bring to life the venue and its café. It also invites schools to discover theatre in all its forms and provides many outreach activities around the shows, which are an important marker in its DNA. The theatre’s actions aim to reduce the social and cultural divide between those who have access to culture and those who do not. It also adopts a pricing policy that aims to reduce economic barriers – another obstacle to culture.
A changing theatre, Comédie’s new building will see the light of day in 2020 and will play a central role in a new district whose soul remains to be kindled.
