Struggling with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell

13 - 18 jan 2020 | Grande salle | Durée : 2h30

Angels in America

Tony Kushner / Philippe Saire

Angels in America, a monumental play of the late 20th century, takes place in the middle of the AIDS years under the very conservative Reagan administration. The play combines genre scenes, fantasy and hallucinations, and tells the story of a generation and a community grappling with the emerging AIDS epidemic. The recipient of a Pulitzer Prize, Angels in America has become a classic in contemporary theatre.

“With this ‘gay fantasy about national issues’ whose action takes place in 1986, choreographer Philippe Saire turns to theatre – because he thinks of bodies first and what makes them tick. Not dancing bodies: moving bodies. Jostled, weakened bodies that clash and embrace. Struggling bodies, each in their own way. Bodies that have to live their sexuality, fight the disease, lose ties and recreate them. We believe that addressing such a carnal issue by having characters move as much as they talk is a hypersensitive idea.” NKDM
