Inspired by “Platonov” by Anton Chekhov

Love is a river

Alexandre Doublet

Cie Alexandre Doublet

The play is over. The murder has been committed. There is a pool of blood on the stage. What happened? How did we get there? How can one love to death? A flashback looks back on the private movements of the characters in Chekhov’s Platonov. Through an interplay of sound, breathing, lights and acting, we gradually discover the circumstances, the pleasures lost and the misunderstandings that led to the murder.

Pop songs guide our investigation, giving us emotional clues on the characters’ journeys.

We appreciated Alexandre Doublet’s necessity to return to his favourite play. We liked how accurate he was in presenting his project. We were intrigued by his desire to combine dramatic radicalness with cheesy pop songs. Love through the eyes of Chekhov through the eyes of Doublet is no bed of roses.
