Seizing joy, losing it, seeking it again and again

20 - 24 nov 2019 | Grande salle | Durée : 1h20

La Gioia

Pippo Delbono

In Italian surtitled in French and English

La Gioia is a journey towards joy. A journey which iconoclastic, baroque and intensely lyrical Italian stage director Pippo Delbono has continued with his extra-ordinary troupe of actors/performers, despite the void left by the death of Bobò, his loyal partner on stage whom he met in 1995 in the mental hospital in Aversa. On this journey, Delbono comes across, or rather invites a circus, tango melancholies, a shaman, little paper boats, and a flower exhibition. An opportunity to rediscover this stage director after Orchidées, featured at La Comédie in 2017.

“We’d seen him, like many others had, stun the public in Avignon. Then one of us (DM) had waited for him for four hours in the snow at Geneva Airport to come and play in Siders, at Théâtre les Halles. They’d had to run in the hallways pushing Bobò’s wheelchair to catch a train and arrive just in time to play. It was magnificent. We wanted him to come back and tell us about his quest for joy.” NKDM
